
Alan Gunn was born in January 1940. Alan went to live in Calderstones in September 1955 when he was 15 years old. He left in February 1974 and went to live in Lisieux Hall, Chorley.
John Thompson was born in April 1942. John went to live in Calderstones in November 1966 when he was 24 years old. He left in March 1971 and went to live in Lisieux Hall, Chorley.
Here John and Alan share memories of dances at Calderstones.

John: It’s dancing that, Isn’t it. Dancing!
Alan: They’re dancing in the hall. After show.
Is that after the show?
Alan: Yeah.
And did you dance at other times. Were there dances that you went to at Calderstones?
Alan: Can’t remember.
John: I know a lot of people there. After the show a lot of people there dancing. They had a disco there I think.… I think there was a disco – somebody there doing a disco.
So did you go dancing John?
John: Oh yeah… I do dancing… I not on there!
So did you go dancing at Calderstones?
John: A long time ago – yeah. With my girlfriend. You was there as well Alan.
Alan: Yeah.
John: With your girlfriend. Dancing. (Looking at photo) They’ve got hands together there!
They have, haven’t they? Could you have your hands together if you were with your girlfriend?
John: Dance with the girlfriend, yeah. Not hold hands, together… The man holding the lady’s side. And that lady hold the man’s side. That way dance.
And what did you think about the dancing? Was it something you liked doing, didn’t like doing?
Alan: Oh I like dancing! I practice in my room every night sometime.
