The project is run by Pathways Associates Community Interest Company (CIC).
The main purpose of Pathways Associates is to work with individuals and organisations to support disabled people live their chosen lives as equals in society. It was formed to complement and work closely with its sister organisation North West Training and Development Team (NWTDT), which is subscription based, and was set up in the 1980s to work with north west local authorities and health organisations. NWTDT was instrumental in supporting ‘Care in the Community’ resettlements of people with learning disabilities from institutions, including Calderstones and Brockhall.
Pathways Associates arranges adult social care related events and training. We ensure free and subsidised places are available for family members and people with learning disabilities. We run an annual conference for people with learning disabilities, as well as social events e.g. annual gala dinner.
Working with NWTDT, we facilitate regional networking groups which inform and influence national policy via the National Self Advocates Forum and the National Families Forum.
Pathways Associates take on commissions from: statutory services to review their systems and services for vulnerable people; NHS England to arrange and co-ordinate relatives and people with learning disabilities as Experts by Experience for Care and Treatment Reviews at Assessment Units and Long-Stay Hospitals; and providers to ‘quality audit’ supported living and other services for vulnerable people, as well as helping staff implement changes in supporting individuals with complex needs.
