During 2016 there were a number of planning meetings between Pathways Associates’ History Project Officer and the Head of Humanities at Blackburn Central High School. This process was supported by the Heritage Learning Manager of Lancashire County Council.
From discussions and correspondence we created a tailor-made selection of learning resources. These were selected from materials gathered during the course of the Calderstones and Brockhall project. However, we also used items from a previous project on the Royal Albert Hospital, as well as excellent educational resources on the long-stay institutions which you can find by clicking on the Open University’s Social History of Learning Disability website.
The teacher at Blackburn Central High School made the final choice about which resources to use with the Year 8 children.
Materials were grouped together under the following topic headings –
Setting the scene
Entry to an institution
Life in the Institution
One child’s story
More information to come!
